Institute for Public Administration (IPA) staff and
students provide thorough, timely, and client-oriented service to the
education community. The following is a list of recent and on-going partnerships.
- College Access Project: IPA staff support the project management and research work of the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO)
by helping to increase the number of students from low-income families
and first-generation students applying to, enrolling in, and persisting
in college. Efforts include assisting with the planning and
implementation of Delaware College Application Month and providing
research and administrative support to DHEO throughout the year.
- School-Business Partnership: A partnership
with the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and the six school
districts in New Castle County that was developed in 2013 to serve as a
forum for school and business leaders to hold an honest, transparent
conversation about the school districts in New Castle County in order to
promote meaningful cooperation and understanding between members. The
project provides an ongoing channel of communications to promote
partnerships, network opportunities, and special programs among the
school districts and business leaders.
- Education Task Force and Committee Support: IPA staff provide research, organizational, and operational support services to a variety of education task forces and committees. Currently, they are supporting the Redding Consortium for Educational Equity.
Conflict Resolution Program: IPA staff members provide facilitation and mediation services and customized trainings on conflict resolution, Individualized Education Program-meeting facilitation, team building, and effective communication.
- The Democracy Project: IPA staff members promote civic engagement and a better understanding of citizen responsibilities in a democratic society. With state agency partners, IPA staff lead programs such as the Student Mock Elections and the summer Institute for Teachers.
- School Library Master Plan: IPA
staff members worked with the Delaware Department of Libraries and Himmel and
Wilson Library Consultants to develop a statewide Delaware School Libraries Master Plan. Staff reviewed relevant literature, engaged in
stakeholder outreach sessions, and worked in tandem with the Delaware
School Libraries Council to develop a path forward for school libraries
across the state.
- Superintendent Search: IPA
has supported seven Delaware school districts by providing
confidential, comprehensive, and cost-effective assistance with their
leadership hiring process gathering community input through
facilitated meetings and surveys, creating search materials,
drafting position announcements, screening applications, ranking
candidates, and recommending semi-finalists to district boards.
- Executive Leader Seminar Series: Comprising half and
day-long professional development seminars aimed at broadening the
knowledge base and operational competencies of school district
superintendents, charter school leaders and their executive-level
administrative teams. The most recent focused on The Opportunities and Challenges of Implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in Delaware. The series is co-sponsored by the Delaware Academy for School Leadership (DASL).
