We have a whole bunch of new staff members at IPA that we can't wait for you to meet. For this month's first edition, we are highlighting Scott Abbott, one of IPA's newest staff members. Scott Abbott is a policy scientist and the assistant director of the Delaware Center for Civics Education.

We asked Scott a few questions including his experience at IPA thus far, and here are his responses:

What is working at IPA like?

While I’ve only worked here a few months, it’s been wonderful getting to know colleagues who have expertise across a range of disciplines but who are united in their engagement with the local and statewide community. As we learned during our winter retreat, IPA was created with the model of an engaged university and it’s been great to help translate theory into practice for the broader Delaware community.

Describe IPA in 3 words:

Supportive, talented, and caring.

What hashtags describe your personality best?

#Passionate #JusticeOriented #PodcastEnthusiast #CivXNow

Where is your happy place?

Either hanging out with my family watching a classic sitcom together (e.g., Friends, the Good Place, Brooklyn 99, etc.) or going for an early morning run through the trails of White Clay Creek State Park.

What is something people don’t know about you?

I’ve lived in 7 states (CT, NJ, DE, MD, DC, VA, and NC) and 1 other country (Australia, for study abroad), and yes, I’m counting DC as a state because it should be one! #DCStatehood

What has been your favorite project at IPA?

I love teaching, so I’ve appreciated the opportunity to start teaching a section of Civics and Economics for Teachers. This course is required for elementary education majors and helps ensure that elementary and middle school teachers graduating from UD will have the depth of knowledge and understanding to be able to teach these disciplines effectively to young people in alignment to the Delaware state social studies standards.

| | | | | | | | A Dedicated Educator | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

An educator who is passionate about civics edcuation, Scott Abott is dedicated to the field of education and he now uses that passion to fuel one of his favorite projects at IPA which is teaching a section of Civics and Economics for teachers.

| | | | | | | | | https://www.bidenschool.udel.edu/news/Pages/meet-scott-abbott.aspx | |
