Graduating senior and public policy major Zachary Sexton has been named the recipient of the 2018 Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award by the University of Delaware Alumni Association.
Each year, the UD Alumni Association honors an outstanding man of the senior class with the Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award. Eligible recipients must demonstrate leadership, academic success and community
service while maintaing a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better at the end of the first semester of their senior year. class, The Emalea Pusey Warner Award, a similar accolade recognizing an outstanding woman of the senior class, was presented to graduating preveterinary and animal biosciences major Laura K. Donahue.
Sexton, who received his honors bachelor of biomedical engineering degree with
distinction and honors bachelor of arts degree in public policy this month, is coauthor on two national conference abstracts and a coauthor
on a recently submitted manuscript for peer-review. Additionally, he is the founder and vice president of the UD chapter of
Habitat for Humanity and has advocated for affordable housing and led Habitat
for Humanity projects throughout Delaware and North Carolina. He was also a student alumni ambassador and an outreach coordinator for the Blue Hen Leadership
Program. This fall, he will attend Stanford University for a Ph.D. in
bioengineering, and he plans to combine bioengineering with public health
initiatives to address chronic disease.
Dean George Watson recognized Sexton for his award and accomplishments during the annual spring Celebrating Achievement and Success event hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences on Wednesday, May 16.
