Students from across the state cast their ballots
BodyText1
Last week, nearly nine-thousand students from across the State of Delaware participated in the 2020 Student Mock Election. The event, held online and sponsored by the Institute for Public Administration's Democracy Project at the University of Delaware, the Social Studies Coalition of Delaware, and the Delaware Department of Elections, offered students in grades 4-12 opportunities to cast their votes for the candidates from Delaware who are running for statewide and federal offices. Voting occurred Thursday, October 29, through Friday, October 30. The candidates appearing on the ballots are the same ones found on the Department of Election's website.
Thirteen districts and three charter schools from all three counties participated. The winners for every office received a majority of votes from elementary, middle, and high school students. Democratic candidates swept the elections in eight districts and three charters. The Republican candidates swept in one district. Candidates from both parties won in four districts. The election for United States Senator resulted in a tie in one district, otherwise Democratic candidates won.
