BodyText1
The UD student chapter of the International City and County Management Association (ICMA) kicked off this year by organizing the career trek and networking event, Creative Placemaking through Volunteering & Engagement, in the City of Lewes on January 27, 2023.
The delegation of the Biden School's graduate and undergraduate students, student chapter's adviser Marcia Scott, and MPA Director Dr. Alisa Moldavanova were hosted by the MPA alumna, ICMA Student Chapter Mentor and City Manager of Lewes Ann Marie Townshend.
Students had an opportunity to network with local government executives from various Delaware municipalities and hear from a variety of speakers about the approaches that the city is employing to promote sustainable local development. Students also learned about how the City of Lewes engages with citizens, local nonprofits, and other community groups, to leverage collective impact. Event speakers included:
- Janelle Cornwell, Lewes Planning Director
- Mary Roth, Executive Director Delaware Greenways
- Heidi Lowe, Member, Lewes Public Arts Committee
- Andrew Williams, Mayor of the City of Lewes
- Sue Sandmeyer, Art in Bloom co-chair and mural project manager
