The work never ends when it comes to cleaning up our streams and water
supplies. But because change comes so slowly, most of us wont reap the
benefits in our lifetime. This episode of WHYY TV 12 FIRST focuses on the next generation of water stewards working to continue the legacy of clean water.
Dr. Gerald Kauffman of University of Delaware's Water Resources Center is teaching the next generation of hydrologists, conservation scientists and green engineers in his Regional Watershed Management (UAPP 411/611) class at the University of Delaware.
"To our current generation still in the university, and even in high school, protecting the environmentthey see it as a natural thing to do, so I'm encouraged by that."
Another good sign? U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics show that employment in the life, physical and social science occupations field is growing. "We keep track of [our] graduates and they get really
good jobs," said Kauffman. "Some of them are actually deciding water policy here in
Delaware and in the EPA, for instance."
WHYY TV 12 FIRST's complete news segment, The Future of Water, first aired on October 20, 2017.
