Katie Gifford, Hira Rashid, Mary Joan McDuffie, and Erin Knight, researchers at the Center of Community Research & Service, in conjunction with Ann Bell of the Department of Sociology, authored a paper published in the January 2020 issue of the Maternal and Child Health Journal, entitled Power of Mom: A Mixed Methods Investigation of Mothers Influence on Womens Contraceptive Attitudes and Behaviors. This research is part of the six year evaluation of an initiative in Delaware to increase access to contraceptives. The focus of this research is a mixed-methods approach to understanding the influence of mothers on the contraceptive choices of their daughters during the time period prior to the intervention. Further research in this area will focus on the impact of the intervention on this mother-daughter dynamic.
