U.S. Rep. John Carney to open lecture series Feb. 17
8:54 a.m., Feb. 16, 2015--U.S. Rep. John Carney will be the first
speaker in a series of talks on contemporary issues in public policy and
administration scheduled this spring at the University of Delaware.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Carney will bring his tax reform listening tour
to UD, allowing students an opportunity to discuss key tax reform
priorities.
The series, sponsored by UD's School of Public Policy and
Administration, is open to all students, faculty and staff, as well as
the general public. All programs are scheduled at 5 p.m. on selected
Tuesdays in Room 127 Memorial Hall on the Newark campus.
Future speakers include:
March 3: Rita Landgraf, secretary of Delaware's Department of
Health and Human Services, will discuss the state's plans for developing
an innovative health delivery system over the next five years;
March 10: Beth Osborne, legislative director for Transportation
America and former assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of
Transportation, will discuss strategies for smart growth and
transportation;
March 17: Siarhei A. Nikaliuk, an analyst with the independent
Institute of Social, Economic and Political Studies of Lithuania, will
speak on the challenges facing the Slav Triangle of Belarus, Russia and
the Ukraine:
March 24: Tony Allen, director of intergovernmental relations for
Bank of America, chair of the governor-appointed Wilmington Advisory
Committee, UD trustee and former executive director of the Wilmington
Urban League, will look at strategies for providing quality education in
urban schools;
April 21: Edward J. Freel, policy scientist at UD's Institute of
Public Administration and former Delaware secretary of state, will
discuss life at the nexus of policy and politics and lessons learned;
April 28: John T.S. Keeler, dean of the Graduate School of Public
Administration and Internal Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh,
will speak on the current state of politics in Western Europe and its
impact on the United States; and
May 5: Collin O'Mara, director of the National Wildlife Foundation
and former Delaware secretary for the Department of Natural Resources
and Environmental Control, will speak on strategies for bringing
together innovation, economic development and conservation.
