Callie Kanim, a School of Public Policy & Administration (SPPA) 4+1 student who is about to graduate with B.A. in Public Policy and Master of Public Administration degrees, has been awarded a prestigious Ransome Scholarship for continued study at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
The R&A Ransome Scholarship is named in recognition of Dr. Ernest L. Ransome III and his commitment to philanthropy, education, and athletics. The scholarship is awarded to deserving postgraduate students to allow them to study at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, and provides support for tuition, fees, books, and travel.
Ms. Kanim is honored to receive the scholarship, as only three students in North America receive the award each year. Her program at the University of St. Andrews will be the MSc in International Development Practice, where she intends to study health policy in international developing countries.
During the 2017-2018 academic year, Callie served as a judicial fellow through SPPA's Institute for Public Administration. Through this assistantship she worked with the Administrative Office of the Courts for the State of Delaware and gained valuable, real-world experience with the judicial system.
Ms. Kanim aspires to someday work for the United Nations Population Fund, and intends to use the skills from her B.A., MPA, and future MSc degrees to conduct productive research in developing settings around the world. She is particularly interested in maternal care for women in rural areas.
