Four students in the School of Public Policy and
Administration were selected as the winning student policy debate team at the
2018 National Conference of Minority Public Administrators (COMPA) in Los
Angeles, California.
Doctoral students Chester Holland and Cimone Philpotts and MPA
students Starmanda Duker and Tierra Fair all public administration fellows at the Institute for Public Administration presented on a panel entitled Crayons
to Careers: Urban Education in Delaware at the competitive Dr. L. Frances P.
Liddell Student Policy Debate during COMPAs 2018 Annual Conference. During the
COMPA Awards Ceremony, the group of University of Delaware students were
announced as the winning debate team.
Hosted by the American Society for Public Administration and
the Conference of Minority Public Administrators, the Dr. L. Frances P. Liddell
Student Policy Debate affords young professionals, undergraduate, and graduate
students in Public
Administration, Public Policy, Public Affairs, and related programs an
opportunity to present and defend positions on current public policy issues.
Participants have the opportunity to enhance communications skills, including
manner of delivery and persuasion.
The Conference of
Minority Public Administrators (COMPA) was established in 1971. It is a section
of the American Society for Public Administration. Our mission is to serve and
assist public administrators, students and other professionals involved in
public service. COMPA is dedicated to achieving and supporting the following
goals for its members:
- Strengthening
and increasing the role minorities play in setting public policy
- Influencing public managers and executives to
insure that the interests and goals of minority employees are served
- Educating our membership about emerging issues
in public sector management by sponsoring conferences and issuing periodicals
- Nurturing the career aspirations of our
membership by identifying employment opportunities
- Recognizing outstanding service by public
administrators
