Jonathan B. Justice, Professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA), has been elected by the membership of the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management (abfm.org) to serve as ABFM's Vice Chair Elect for 2019, Vice Chair for 2020, and Chair for 2021. ABFM is a section of the American Society for Public Administration (aspanet.org), and is a leading professional association of international scholars and practitioners concerned with public budgeting and finance. ABFM's professional-development leadership activities include an annual conference, occasional webinars and issue briefs on topics of interest, and co-sponsorship with the American Association for Budget and Program Analysis (www.aabpa.org) of the leading scholarly journal Public Budgeting and Finance (www.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/15405850). This continues a close Delaware connection with ABFM. Justice follows in the footsteps of SPPA Associate Professor and MPA Director Dan Smith (2017 Chair) and SPPA alumnus Bryan Sullivan (2018 ABFM Chair). All three strongly encourage SPPA students to join and participate actively in relevant professional associations such as ABFM, AABPA, ARNOVA, ASPA, AOPA, APPAM, GFOA, ICMA, and so on. Participating in professional associations and presenting your work at conferences helps you to learn about your profession, build a network of fellow students and future professional peers, and network with potential mentors and employers.
