Announcing the Launch of Two New Graduate Programs

The Biden School has launched two new graduate programs, both of which are offered in partnership with colleges outside of arts and sciences.

The doctoral program in engineering and public policy is designed for students with a technical background in engineering to study the broader social context of their work. The degree program is being administered and supported by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in cooperation with the Biden School. 

Students in this inherently interdisciplinary, research-focused degree program will benefit from the integration of instruction, research, and professional practice. Topics of study include transportation, smart cities, sustainability, civil infrastructure, and more.

Applications are now open, and the first students will begin the program in fall 2020.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in health policy and management is up and running in the Biden School. Many of the core courses are shared by students in the MPH in epidemiology, which is housed in UD's College of Health Sciences. MPH in health policy and management take specialized courses in content areas such as program evaluation, financial management, conflict resolution, and inequities in health and healthcare as well as public health electives from across the University.

Kim Isett, a new member of the Biden School faculty, is serving as program director for the MPH.  Isett is an Organization Theorist research focuses on institutional pressures and dynamics in implementing government services, with a particular interest in the delivery of services to vulnerable populations, and the use of evidence in public decision-making. 

MPH students are prepared for careers in health policy in applied public health settings: healthcare institutions, nonprofits, and local, state, or federal agencies. While in the program, students fulfill requirements for an applied practice experience and an integrative learning experience.

The first UD MPH students matriculated in fall 2019, and applications are open for future semesters.
