The Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect, the official journal of the
National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA), welcomes
Karen Stein, Ph.D., as its new Editor-in-Chief in 2012. Dr. Stein is
Associate Professor of Leadership at the School of Public Policy and
Administration, University of Delaware. In 1986, she founded the
Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE), and from
1988-2011, she served as Project Supervisor for the University of
Delaware component of the National Center on Elder Abuse. Dr. Stein will
be supported by incoming Associate Editor, Sharon Merriman-Nai, M.C.,
Project Director of CANE and former co-manager of the National Center on
Elder Abuse
The new Editors will continue the mission of former Editor, Georgia
Anetzberger, Ph.D., who has assumed the role of President of NCPEA. Dr.
Stein aims to establish the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect (JEAN)
as the primary scholarly resource in the field: "One of the greatest
strengths of JEAN is its multidisciplinary focus on the issue of elder
mistreatment. Our vision is twofold and builds upon the legacy brought
to the field by the journal's founder, Rosalie Wolf, and by editors over
time: first, to purposefully include a diversity of perspectives and
authorship focused on rigorous research and innovative and
evidence-based practices; and second, to facilitate the journal's
evolution as the first-choice journal for manuscript submissions by both
established and emerging scholars in the elder abuse field of study."
Dr. Stein and Ms. Merriman-Nai were selected in a highly competitive
recruitment process initiated by Taylor & Francis. An ad hoc
committee of the NCPEA Board of Directors reviewed and made
recommendations from among the many qualified applications received.
Established in 1988, NCPEA is a membership association of
researchers, practitioners, educators, and advocates dedicated to
protecting America's elderly population and adults with disabilities who
are at risk of or victimized by abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Members of NCPEA receive a subscription to the journal as a benefit of

Now in its 24th volume year, the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect
is the peer-reviewed quarterly journal that explores the advances in
research, policy and practice, and clinical and ethical issues
surrounding the abuse and neglect of older people. This unique forum
