CCRS Release of New Research Brief on Poverty

​CCRS has released a research brief on po​v​erty in Delaware to present basic parameters of the complex problem of poverty in the state of Delaware. The official poverty rate is calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau based on income thresholds and family composition. Within the text, CCRS Assistant Policy Scientists Becky McColl and Erin Lynch explore Delaware's poverty rate over time, considering differences in geography, race, ethnicity, and household structure. Segments of the brief contain details regarding children in poverty and older adults in poverty, to accompany the description of poverty experienced by Delaware's population on the whole. While it is too early to detect the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on poverty using data from the U.S. Census, the text points to indicators such as unemployment, food insecurity, and Medicaid enrollment to project the financial impact of COVID-19 on Delawareans.
