My current work focuses on the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the use of mainstream and alternative financial providers; understanding how policy changes in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly the food stamp program, affect caseloads; and, examining how child savings programs affects investments in children. I am currently a non-resident Research Fellow at the Center for Financial Security at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.<br></p><p>My research has been published in the <em>National Tax Journal</em>, the <em>Southern Economic Journal</em>, the <em>Journal of Consumer Affairs</em>, the <em>Social Service Review</em>, and the <em>American Journal of Agricultural Economics</em>. My work has been supported by the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.russellsage.org/awarded-project/effects-affordable-care-act-%25C2%25A0-use-%25C2%25A0alternative-financial-services-providers&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNE-BTuFRMCC7OjhJG9pF9ndpZhEGw" target="_blank">Russell Sage Foundation</a>, the <a href="http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.irp.wisc.edu/initiatives/emergingscholars/grants.htm%23fitzpatrick&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFziNzG6Brq3f1hP9RJ1CjFSWkGKQ" target="_blank">University of Wisconsin Institute for Research on Poverty</a>, the <a href="http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.ukcpr.org/research/childhood-hunger/grant-recipients&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNEUJvcugcUuCpWTiRTQ7HHaKgll1w" target="_blank">University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research</a>, the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://filene.org/&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNEelIyUR4h5U9Q9gH0oK3vo3P4w7Q" target="_blank">Filene Research Institute</a>, and the FDIC Center for Financial Research.<br></p><p>Prior to the University of Delaware, I was an Associate Professor of Economics at <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.seattleu.edu/business/departments/economics/&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFPS7pqjPTlQllcOJE3_TGWnkM8Zw" target="_blank">Seattle University</a>, an Economist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's <a href="http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.ers.usda.gov&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNE4wEvWnl5_BZ0g5XtN31AD5oeabA" target="_blank">Economic Research Service</a> (ERS) and served as an adjunct professor at the <a href="http://www.google.com/url?q=http://gppi.georgetown.edu/&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNGvvyHJQbB6czbgVUOwkK_E0SfKzw" target="_blank">Georgetown Public Policy Institute</a>.
