Thus, these young people face severe and compounding inequities. In connection with the larger literature on social determinants of health and positive youth development through sport, this study explores one facet of potential programming within juvenile correctional facilities: sport. Sport programs have been found to be an effective setting for the growth and development of young people in school and communities settings, but less is known about the prevalence and experience of sport programs in juvenile correctional facilities. This study explores the landscape of both scope and nature of sport programs in long-term, secure juvenile correctional facilities, and has implications for both policy and practice.
Public Policy, Health Policy, Sport for Development, Community Engaged Scholarship

Farley-Ripple, E., May, H., Karpyn, A., Tilley, K., & McDonough, K.
