The University of Delaware Social Studies Partnership is being recognized for its promotion of innovative ideas to support more effective social studies education. The Middle States Council for the Social Studies (MSCSS), the nation's oldest professional organization supporting social studies education, presented the 2018 Social Studies Programs of Excellence Certificate to the UD partnership at its 115th annual conference on Friday, March 2nd. This certificate is presented to a school, district, institution or organization that has promoted innovative ideas to support more effective social studies education.
"The University of Delaware Social Studies Partnership truly deserves the award because of the programs offered in The Democracy Project, Delaware Geographic Alliance, Professional Development Center for Educators, and in the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship CEEE), which have been instrumental in developing and implementing the curriculum for social studies educators in Delaware to meet the needs of 21st century learners," said MSCSS President-Elect Scott Abbott.
Founded in 2015, the UD Social Studies Partnership consists of four associated centers, The Democracy Project in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, the Delaware Geographic Alliance in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, and the Professional Development Center for Educators in the College of Education and Human Development. Combining the expertise of the four centers in the social studies areas of civics, economics, geography and history, the partnership provides Delaware teachers with high-quality K-12 professional development experiences in social studies.
