CCRS has released a research brief on new eviction filings in Delaware following the lifting of the statewide eviction moratorium on July 1. There has been considerable concern nationwide about drastic increases in the number of people who are at risk for eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Delaware, the number of new filings has been lower than expected but is increasing in spite of the federal moratorium put in place by the CDC. The brief also reports findings on the landlords who file for eviction and includes a map of from where in Delaware these eviction filings are originating. Continued monitoring of evictions is essential to understanding the extent and nature of the economic impacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for planning responses to related economic and social consequences that will arise, said Stephen Metraux, CCRS director who, with research assistant Josh Solge, authored the study.
