Making Space for Tough Talks in Class

Momar (Talla) Cisse, Masters in Public Administration graduate student and Center for Community Research & Service research assistant, is the 2019 Lee Summer Fellow at Teaching Tolerance.  Under the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance is a project that works to prevent the growth of hate. They publish magazines and films highlighting civil rights issues including: LGBQT, religion and race to their more than 500,000 subscribers made up of teachers, principals, counselors, district leaders and superintendents.  During the summer, Talla has worked with the Director of Teaching Tolerance to develop a "Top 10" list of inequitable school policies and how districts can address them.   He authored an article Making Space for Tough Talks in Class which discusses the importance of talking with students about issues.
