RESEARCH

Medicaid Research:

CCRS participates in the Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) as a member of the DE-INBRE Centralized Share Resources (CSR).

INBRE proposals for research based on the Medicaid Claims in the areas of maternal/child health, pediatric populations, and social determinants of health have been reviewed and the awards will be anounced by the end of November. Three projects will be funded in the amount of $8,000 per project to use in support of Medicaid analysis.  For more information, contact Mary Joan McDuffie at mcduffie@udel.edu.

KIDS COUNT in Delaware: On 9/24/19, the Annie E. Casey Foundation's national KIDS COUNT project released a Data Snapshot on Children Living in Concentrated Poverty

Opportunity to highlight YOUR organization- from October through November 22, 2019, KIDS COUNT in Delaware will provide an opportunity for community-based organizations, child-serving projects, and others to purchase ad space in the 2020 legislative calendar. The calendar is a "page-a-day" style calendar to count down the days in our state's legislative session which shares indicator data and policy solutions related to obstacles to success for Delaware children. Sponsoring an ad in the calendar means your information will be on the desk of every legislator, dozens of high-ranking decision-makers, hundreds of Twitter and Facebook followers and our listserv of over 1,000 subscribers. It may be our anniversary, but we're giving you a gift. In honor of our 25th year anniversary, we're offering you the opportunity to save $250. Purchase 3 pages of ad space and get the 4th page for free (a $250 value). Cost: $250 per page or 4 pages for $750. Act now, there are limited promotion spaces available! Ads will be sold ONLY thru Friday, November 22, 2019 To place an ad, contact Janice Barlow at 302-831-3462 or kids-count@udel.edu

KIDS COUNT in Delaware is Seeking Leadership Awards Nominations- KIDS COUNT in Delaware is proud to announce its 2020 KIDS COUNT Leadership Awards program to celebrate Delawareans who have been leaders in improving the health and well-being of our state's children and youth. Please nominate a person in your community and encourage others to do the same. Awardees will be celebrated at the KIDS COUNT 25th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. DEADLINE: All nominations must be received by KIDS COUNT in Delaware by December 31, 2019. Questions regarding these awards may be addressed to Janice Barlow at jls@udel.edu or (302) 831-3462.

Homelessness: Steve Metraux, CCRS Director, was busy traveling this summer in conjunction with a project he is involved with that looks at local responses to unsheltered homelessness across the US. As part of this project, he visited New Orleans LA, Santa Barbara CA, Wichita KS and Philadelphia, meeting with local officials, services providers and other key stakeholders to better assess best practices in addressing what has become an increasingly urgent and difficult problem for cities. UAPP PhD student Mimi Rayl is also working on this project as a Research Assistant. Funded by Arnold Ventures, a report based on this research will be publicly disseminated in the fall.

Evictions:  Alexandra Guterbock, an undergraduate UAPP major, was awarded a Summer Public Policy Fellowship to do research on evictions in New Castle County. This has been a topic that has received considerable attention of late due to its links with poverty and homelessness, and little is known about the impact and extent of eviction in Delaware. The fellowship involved Alex interviewing key stakeholders, attending court sessions, and analyzing data from eviction proceedings. She presented her findings to a coalition of legal services and housing providers in Wilmington, and has received funding from the Delaware Community Foundation to turn her findings into a research brief this fall.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

Signe Bell, MPA, and Roger Hesketh, MPA were recently trained in the process Strategic Doing. "Strategic Doing" teaches people how to form collaborations quickly, move them toward measurable outcomes and make adjustments along the way. In todays world, collaboration is essential to meet the complex challenges we face.  For more information on Strategic Doing.
