This course will provide a high level overview of criminal justice policy issues relevant to the important discussions of criminal justice reform, including a basic review of the criminal justice system, an in-depth look at issues including sentencing reform, bail reform, probation and parole, re-entry services, community prevention programs, and alternatives to criminal prosecution. Local and national guest lecturers who are leaders in these issues will present during the course, including federal and state prosecutors and leaders within the community on re-entry services. A former inmate will guest lecture on the impediments to rehabilitation, the life impact of a conviction, and his personal journey to help others and raise awareness.
